Here is the winning script of a scene for the Spanish film "La Lengua de las Mariposas" written by year 9 Spanish students: Gracie, Lorenza, Marc and Christian. Students used characters and language learnt during the viewing of the film. Well done!!!

La Lengua de las Mariposas

M= Moncho, P= El Profesor ( Don Gregorio), R=Roque, H= El hermano de Moncho,
G= La Guardia Civil, P= Papá
(Moncho, Roque, y el Profesór están hablando cerca del bosque en la tarde)

M= ¿Y cómo nacen los niños?
P= Ehm…vale…cuando una mamá y una papá están enamorados…pues…se casan.
R= Pero mi padres no estaban casados cuando yo nací…
P= Ehm…pues…
(Un hombre entra. Él está hablando consigo mismo y cantando. No camina bien)

P= ¡Mira! ¡Ese hombre!
M= ¿Qué le pasa? ¿Por qué camina asi?
R= Hahaha, ¡que payaso!
P= Ese hombre está borracho. Ha bebido demasiado alcohol.
M= Pero mi papa siempre toma alcohol.
P= Si vale, yo también. Pero demasiado alcohol te pone un poco loco. Vamos a casa.
(Caminan por la calle) (Entra, corriendo, el hermano de Moncho)

H= ¡Moncho! Corre a casa. Papi nos está buscando.
M= ¡Espérame!
(Moncho y su hermano corren. El profesor y Roque continúan caminando y se van afuera) (Moncho y su hermano entran en casa, y el padre está con una guardia civil)

G= ¡Viva la República!
P= ¡Viva!
G= Hmm… eres ateo… ¿verdad? Me han dicho que tú eres un republicano- ¡un traidor!
P= ¡No! Claro que no-
M= Papi….
H= ¡Shh!...
P= Claro que no. ¡Viva la república!
G= Vale. Me convenciste. Adios.
(La guardia se va )
M= Papi, ¿por qué mentiste?
P= Es dificíl de explicar. Esos hombres son malos. Si no mentimos a esos hombres… ellos van a matarme. Son personas crueles, y ésta es una guerra horrible. Es como el infierno.

(Moncho y su padre se abrazon)
M= ¡No quiero que te maten!
P= Shh, no llores, chico. Sueña que Dios nos ayudará. Y ésta guerra terminará.

Espero que lo hayáis pasado muy bien en las vacaciones. Encontraréis aquí algunas fotos de nuestra celebración tradicional de las UVAS. Recordad! Una uva por cada campanada de la medianoche en la Nochevieja. A DISFRUTARLO...

Our traditional celebration of eating 12 grapes on every chime at midnight on New Year! One grape for every wish on the twelve months of the new year to come.

Thanks year 9 and 10 for joining in this wonderful Spanish tradition, which we still continue doing to this date.

Lingro

With Lingro, you can view any web page or document you want through Lingro’s website and then you just point your mouse at the words, click and the meaning appears in a little blue bubble. The concept is simple: imagine you are reading a online newspaper in a foreign language and you come across a word you don’t know, normally you would then open up another window or tab, go to your favourite online dictionary (www.wordreference.com in my case) and look up the word there; well, with Lingro it’s all integrated.

Lingro will remember which words you looked up and, after you have finished reading the article, you can play vocabulary games online to help you learn and remember the words.

Periódicos y Noticias

This useful Spanish website is called Kiosko. Here you can find links to a variety of Spanish newspapers, all on the same page. All you have to do is click on any of the front page screenshots and it takes you to that paper’s own website.

The website allows you to access papers from different Spanish regions as well as other international newspapers (French, Italian and German amongst others). I particularly like the Humor section, which displays a selection of the newspapers comic strips and cartoons.

To help you learn vocabulary, you could view the foreign newspapers through the Lingro browser, allowing the reader to simply click on any new words to find out what it means.
